Review: Bodyguard

Bodyguard is a short story written by Karl Bunker.  This story was published in the  March/April edition of Fantasy & ScienceFiction.

Bunker does a great job of creating a story universe, not just a story, by starting this story in the middle of two interconnected issues.  On the one hand, humans are (supposedly) trying to save an alien civilization.  On the other hand, humans are “evolving” into something that the main character finds threatening.  Instead of trying to address either or both of these issues to the fullest, Bunker follows one character through his interactions in this universe to their bittersweet conclusion.
