Prompt Wrap-Up

Over the last month, I have shared many marketing prompts you can use to start your marketing efforts on any given day.  Like writing prompts, these posts were attempts to spark ideas for you, the author-marketer.

I would like you to consider the utility of a writing prompt for the moment.  Sure, a prompt can spark an idea and that’s great.  But you’re not going to build your career around prompts, even if there is an abundant supply of them.  Writing is usually done with more purpose than that, at least when it’s done at a professional level.

Marketing is no different.  Like writing, you can market by the seat of your pants or you can market based on a plan.  The difference, of course, is that when pantsers write, they re-write, revise, craft, and polish before their manuscript becomes a published book.  When you market, it’s much more live-action.  Your mistakes and missteps can become a matter of public record.

Consider how many times we’ve seen politicians or celebrities tweet something outrageous and then delete or apologize for the tweet in the aftermath.

I strongly recommend you develop a marketing plan to carry through your marketing activities.  Start with a goal (or multiple goals) and then devise strategies that will help you achieve your goals.  Develop tactics that will help you fulfill your strategies.  Then layout a step-by-step action plan to help you implement your tactics.

This is something you can do by yourself.  But you may not be comfortable doing so or you may not be knowledgeable enough to do this on your own the first time around.  You may have ideas, but not know how to make them into reality.  You may know what you want, but not know how to turn it into an actionable, measureable goal.

Due to the demand for knowledgeable, practical marketing services, even for those who—for the most part—want to do it themselves, I have melded my writing interests and my copywriting expertise to offer marketing services to my fellow authors.  If you need some marketing assistance, particularly in the planning stages, then feel free to check out the services I offer.

If you see a service package you like or want to request a special package of services tailored to your needs, you can contact me and put “Prompt” in the subject for a special 10% discount.

Happy marketing!
