Getting Back to Work

If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been on track lately.  After my long vacation, getting back to work has been more difficult than expected.  This is partly due to some unexpected weather.  For those of you outside the U.S., we’ve been experiencing spurts of unusually cold weather.  The weather has been so cold, in fact, that the school district has canceled school for four days this year due to extreme cold.  Twice now, artic air has invaded Wisconsin.  Otherwise, it’s just been plain cold for the most part.

I’m sure this cold is unpleasant for most of us, but it has an aggravating effect on me.  As I’ve mentioned before, I have undiagnosed fibromyalgia.  Fibromyalgia involves chronic pain and chronic fatigue, both of which seemed to be exacerbated by the cold.  I’ve been compensating by taking very hot baths and getting extra sleep, which has seriously cut into my work time.  In the time I am able to work, there are days when my concentration is so poor that I’m not able to work very well.

I’d tried a variety of things to break this cycle with incremental successes, not enough to get “caught up” on all I wish I’d been able to do.  I’m getting back to work, but I’m not up to my usual speed.  Now, I’m back in school and that’s helping.  Recovery is still a slow process, with its own ups and downs.  Sometimes you’ve just got to take life as it comes.
